What is the difference between "edible oil" and "skin care oil"?

There are two types of oil, edible oil and skin care oil (carrier oil).

Skin care oils are high purity and edible oils are low purity.

For example, olive oil is famous for both skin care and eating, but the ingredients are same olives.

Edible olive oil is the oil in which impurities contained in the oil extracted from the olive remain. This is suitable for eating because it has a rich aroma and flavor due to the remaining impurities.

Skin care oil is made by filtering this oil to remove impurities and increase its purity.

2. Can edible oil be used for skin care?

You may think that edible oils with impurities are more nutritious and good for the skin, but edible oils with impurities are not fit well to the skin and are sticky after using.

People with strong skin may be able to use edible oils on their skin, but these impurities can be irritating to the skin and can cause rashes and acne.

In addition, cooking oil has a lot of impurities, so it is easy to oxidize. So if you use it for cooking and eat it soon, there is no problem, but if you use it on your skin and expose it to the air for hours, it will oxidize, which also causes rough skin.

So be sure to use properly filtered skin care oils.

3. Can skin care oils be edible?

Basically, if the ingredients are foods such as olives and sesame, it is okay to eat them. However, as I mentioned earlier, skin care oils are filtered and have a high purity, so they have almost no taste or flavor and are not delicious to eat. (lol)

Moreover, skin care oils are much more expensive than edible oils. So it's a waste to use a lot for cooking that is enough for your skin with one or two drops!

4. What is the difference between "unrefined" and "refined" skin care oils?

By the way, there are "refined oil" and "unrefined oil" in skin care oil, so-called carrier oil.

"Unrefined oil" is oil from which impurities have been removed by filtering the extracted oil."Refined oil" is oil from which the impurities have been removed and further refined to make it transparent and odorless.

Since "unrefined oil" is not refined, the nutritional value, aroma, and color that are the individuality of the ingredients remain, and it also has viscosity.

The merit is that it is a fresher oil and has high nutritional value because there are few extra steps.

However, unrefined oils have the disadvantage that they are easily oxidized and can be irritating to people with ultra-sensitive skin.

On the other hand, "refined oil" becomes colorless and odorless and loses the individuality of the ingredients, but its viscosity also decreases and it becomes an oil that fit well to the skin. Since it is a very pure oil, it does not easily oxidize and tends to be easy to use even for people with sensitive skin.

But the disadvantage is in the manufacturing process.

Not all, but refined oil, which is cheaper than unrefined oil, is refined from the remaining residue of unrefined oil by pressing it at high temperature and high pressure to squeeze the oil, or by extracting it with a chemical solvent called hexane. So there is a possibility that chemical components may remain, and some nutrients have been lost.

Therefore, please select "edible" when using it for eating, and "skin care" when using it for skin care.

In the case of skin care, I can't decide because it has a purpose and compatibility, but I always choose "unrefined oil" and I like "unrefined oil".

I have super sensitive skin, but I use cold pressed unrefined organic jojoba oil!
